    The Director of Community Development manages operations associated with developing, improving, and maintaining relationships between the organization and the community. This position promotes the organization and its services to the state of North Carolina, with particular focus with partners associated with members of the farm and plant communities.


    • Conceptualize and implement comprehensive community engagement strategy in North Carolina.
    • Develops and establishes outreach and community relation initiatives to promote community citizenship and charitable contribution programs.
    • Ensures effective communication of the organization's overarching message.
    • Creates and maintains lasting relationships with other organizations in the community to assist in developing events that serve the needs of the local population
    • Develops, coordinates and maintains programs to promote good will by disseminating information to the community and soliciting feedback from residents
    • Organizes and supports employee volunteer programs and coordinates with local groups
    • Represents the organization at community gatherings and forums
    • Manages publicity and media events

    • Bachelor’s Degree from a regionally accredited four-year college or university and 8+ years’ relevant experience required.
    • Thorough knowledge of principles, practices and processes involved in community and economic development.
    • Considerable knowledge of the local, regional, state and federal resources and agencies available to assist with various economic development activities.
    • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with industry and business executives and owners or representatives, public officials at the local, state and federal levels, contractors, community leaders and organizations, other department heads, superiors and other employees.
    • Ability to lead and manage under conditions of ambiguity and uncertainty.
    • Able to develop a new way of thinking to drive innovative ideas.
    • Excellent writing, interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal).
    • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with peers and executive leadership, via written and/or verbal communication.
    • Ability to work well with others in fast paced, dynamic environment.
    • Ability to be respectful, approachable and team oriented while building strong working relationships and a positive work environment.
    • Requires travel, up to 50% of the time throughout the state of North Carolina.
