    Smithfield has embarked on a bold strategy to grow our veteran employment base to over 4000 by 12/31/2020 (see www.smithfieldfoods.com/veterans). Smithfield is seeking a Military Talent Acquisition Specialist to help establish and administer programs for targeting recruitment and retention of military veterans that fulfill both current and future skill requirements while complementing our company culture.

     

    The Military Talent Acquisition Specialist will assist recruiting initiatives to obtain veteran talent for placement in exempt and non-exempt positions across the organization.  This position helps infuse Smithfield’s culture with aspects necessary to ensure successful recruitment, placement and retention of veterans within the company through program execution and organizational education.  This role is accountable for the execution of our military training programs.  This position will visit military installations and transition centers to make presentations to military veterans.

    Responsibilities

     Veteran Recruiting and Training Program Management

    • Manage, maintain and implement military recruitment strategies.
    • Responsible for managing and continuous improvement of Smithfield’s military training programs which includes conducting orientations; scheduling assignments; monitoring job contributions; coaching trainees; advising managers on training and coaching.
    • Coordinates and manages military base participation for recruitment fairs; coordinates event-specific organizational aspects, promotional materials and understands military transition programs and offerings.

     Corporate and Plant Recruiting

    • Recruit hourly and salaried employees by managing the full cycle of the recruiting process and work with hiring managers to ensure job requirements and needs are met. 
    • Review employment applications and resumes and interview applicants.

     Additional Duties

    • Support the functional areas of human resources including, but not limited to, recruitment and employment, personnel records, employee and/or labor relations, benefits administration, training, AA/EEO, labor relations, safety, and special projects.
    • Conduct new-employee orientations.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) in Human Resources, Business Administration, Marketing, or related discipline from a regionally accredited four-year college or university and 2+ year’s Talent Acquisition, Human Resources or relevant experience, required.
    • Prior service in any branch of the military (Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard, or any reserve components of such branches) with an honorable discharge, if not actively serving, required.
    • Clear understanding of the recruitment lifecycle process. 
    • Knowledge of Internet software, Microsoft Excel, Word Processing, and Power Point.
    • Experience with recruiting systems and software, such as iCIMS, LinkedIn, Career Builder, Monster, etc is preferred.
    • Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
    • Must be willing to travel 40% of the time.
    • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
    • Ability to work well with others in fast paced, dynamic environment

    Work Environment

    • The majority of the time is spent in an office setting outside of the production plant.  The plant environment will include wet or humid conditions (non-weather related), extreme cold and heat (non-weather related), working near moving mechanical parts, exposure to fumes or airborne particles, and chemicals.
    • Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but can be loud when in the production area.
