    We are seeking an experienced, FAA certified Chief Pilot for our aerial flight operations in Newport News, VA. Our ideal candidate embodies flight safety. Primary responsibilities include managing and scheduling Smithfield's team of pilots, overseeing maintenance of aircraft, carrying crew and equipment, flight planning and coordinating with ground support personnel. 


    • Responsible for providing the safe transportation of employees, customers and guests through the operation of the company's jet fleet. 
    • Responsibilities for non-flying programs such as flight safety, scheduling and maintenance.
    • Direct aircraft operational initiatives to enhance pre-flight and post-flight procedures which include assigning and scheduling personnel, coordinating air transportation schedules, and oversight of aircraft maintenance.
    • Ensures that all flight and ground operations comply with federal aviation regulations.
    • Follows standard operating procedures and supports aviation departmental training.
    • Administers aviation logistics to ensure proper coordination and safety among all revolving departments and flights.
    • Performs all other duties assigned. 


    • Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited four-year college or university and 8+ years' of relevant experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. 
    • Part 121 and Part 135/91 flight operations experience.
    • Minimum 7,000 hours total flight time, required.
    • Minimum of 1,500 hours as pilot-in-command, required. 
    • Must be able to travel overnight, to domestic and international destinations, sometimes short notice. 
    • International experience, a plus. 
    • Excellent customer service & interpersonal skills. 
    • Well organized and detail-oriented with an ability to multitask.
    • Excellent time management and communication skills. 

    Supervisory Responsibilities

    • Provides leadership and guidance to employees within the Flight Department. Manages and mentors the team.
    • Carries our managerial and supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
    • Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
